While it’s true that McCall, Idaho, may not head every list of top travel destinations, it’s also true that this is a town with charm and an overlooked ski resort area. McCall is actually a very unique ski travel destination. While Colorado may be a little more world renowned for their slopes, Idaho has beautiful mountains as well and often for less than higher end Aspen type resorts. If you need more convincing, here are some other things you can do in McCall to fill out your trip when you aren’t on the mountains.
1.)Ever try pottery? While the slopes are sure to be cold in the dead of winter, there are places in McCall where you can warm up and have a good time. McCall actually has a town sponsored pottery center which offers memberships as well as day passes. You can wing it or receive clay modeling instruction.
2.) Have any non skiers to entertain? Not everyone is up for skiing and it’s possible family members could feel left out. Perhaps it would be wise to include a stop at the activity barn which is home to some of the best tubing in town. While most of the slopes in McCall are dedicated to skiers and snowboarders, this one is just for the tubers and families always walk out with a smile.
2.)Visit the state park- Ponderosa State Park is a sightseers paradise and popular tourist attraction. If you are in McCall at a time in the year when it’s warm enough, you can find some great camping in the state park. They also offer guided walks through the park which will let you know what birds are native to Idaho as well as what native wildlife that could be lurking around.
McCall offers plenty to do for visitors and also boasts a proud local population. Keep them in mind when planning your next ski trip.
